She put a cat into the servant's trousers, then tied up both ends of the trousers with pieces of strings, and finally held up a stick to strike the cat.

Naturally, it felt so painful that it jumped up and down, and scratched the servant's legs with its claws. Consequently, the servant was badly hurt.

With reference to cases (1)(2)(3) may I be informed if the girls in question were removed from their owners?

Also in Case (2) as this does not appear to have been a marriage case, was the go-between prosecuted and punished as a go-between, irrespective of whether there was fraud involved or not?

May I call your attention to your letter of April 16th, in which you say: "The girls are absolutely free in law as against purchasers and in cases of ill-treatment they are removed".

With reference to case (4) are you aware of the high regard that is felt for Miss Pitt and her work, in which case would you carefully consider her statements?

With reference to case (5) would you please note that the girl was brought from Canton to Hong Kong to be sold, thus emphasising the fact that these girls are brought from the mainland into Hong Kong.

With reference to case (6) would you please note Mr. Smith's (the Magistrate) remarks regarding legislation.

And are you sure that nothing has been done by the Hong Kong Government to stop these disgraceful scenes?

May I also be informed as to whether the Contractor concerned was ever found and prosecuted, and if not what was the difficulty in doing so?

Are you aware that practically every reform and every attempt on the part of the Sanitary Board to ameliorate the conditions of children in Hong Kong has been systematically thrown out by the Legislative Council?

Will you carefully consider this letter which was a perfectly voluntary one, and written by an ordinary everyday Chinaman who no doubt knows things as they actually exist.

Systemally, may I draw your attention to the fact that both Mr. Lau Chu and Dr. Pearce, Medical Officer of Health who support the system, are both connected with the Hong Kong Government.
